About the Artists

ARSON

Diana Miron, Reinhold Friedl

Duration 61.01 | Released October 2026

Arson documents the first collaboration between

Romanian string/voice performer Diana Miron and

Berlin-based pianist Reinhold Friedl.

Meticulously recorded and mixed by  Laurențiu Coțac

in the summer of 2023 in Bucharest, Romania, the music

evokes faltering immersive environments with the help

of hyperspectral shifting intensity as the instruments —

Miron’s voice/violin/viola against Friedl’s inventive

approach to the piano — attain a profound physicality

of sound.

Complex, multilayered and experimental in the best sense,

the album maintains an engaging appeal, owing to its

radical spirit and emotional clarity.

About the Artists

Vocalist, violinist, composer and performer, Diana Miron (b. 1989) is a prominent figure on the Romanian experimental music scene. She draws on an extensive background in classical and contemporary music and free jazz, with a constant focus on creating ever-new artistic spaces.

The restrictive socio-political context in which she grew up, followed by collaborations with international artists, shaped a dominant artistic drive toward freeing herself from stylistic boundaries through sound exploration, improvisation (solo and collective), video art, sound objects, and performance.

Her projects include soundtrack composition and sound design for theatre and film, teaching extended vocal techniques/sound workshops, and creation of performative installations.

Constantly developing a personal instrumental language and vocal expression through experimental methods, Diana Miron has performed in several EU countries and at festivals such as CTM Berlin, City Sonic Brussels, Sacrum Profanum Krakow, Berlin Atonal, among others.

As a point of departure, her works respond directly to and connect with the surrounding environment, emphasizing the clarity of the present moment. Inspired by the unlimited potential of sonic matter, by new perspectives, conventions, and virtual environments, she rejects mass-culture narratives in a way that directly engages the viewer/listener.

Reinhold Friedl, pianist, composer and ensemble director, is a pioneer of international avant-garde music, opening up new physical sound qualities ranging from precise sensuality to noisy harshness: He taught the piano to sing, his internationally acclaimed ensemble zeitkratzer opened up new horizons for ensemble playing, from Xenakis to Lou Reed, from folk music to Stockhausen, from young composers to numerous transdisciplinary collaborations, including film, dance and video cooperations. Reinhold Friedl's compositions profit from these experiences: orgies of sound for orchestra, noise choreographies for string quartet, recorded by Quatueur Diotima, extended techniques worthy of the name and transforming the solo piano into an orchestra. Improvised musics with Isabelle Duthoit, Keiji Haino, Franz Hautzinger, Diana Miron, …

Friedl studied mathematics, composition (Mario Bertoncini and Witold Szalonek) and piano (Renate Werner, Alan Marks, Alexander von Schlippenbach) and has released more than a hundred CDs and LPs. He holds a PhD from Goldsmiths University of London and has been commissioned by international festivals such as Wiener Festwochen, BBC London, the French State, Berliner Festspiele, ZKM Karlruhe, etc. and has published numerous articles and radio features on electronic music and other topics. Friedl tours worldwide.
